Last week, I went to Provence to try and get some late summer sun. The sun was episodic but the markets were a revelation. The quantities of Chanterelle and Boletus and other fungi which I didn’t recognise were a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth and I did some quick sketchy paintings of them. There were spices, chillies, fantastic cheeses, fish,

mouth-watering nougat, olives, figs, peaches, strings of luscious garlic, and that was just the beginning. Every day these stalls were laid out in one town or another. This is just a small taster.
